Title: live interactive online study-group
Nick the Pilot - December 21, 2005 03:50 AM (GMT)
Hi everybody!
The San Diego, California USA group has announced that their study group will soon be online. Most importantly, they say it will be live, including sound and video feed. My understanding is that people at home will be able to interact with the people in the meeting live.
There is no date as to when it will actually launch, but keep checking back for updates for a launch-date.

I was able to connect to, and see/hear today's (Sunday's) ULT meeting. However, there were some technical issues that came up.
(1) When I attemped to connect, I had to sit through a 10-minute Codec download (via dial-up). First-time users need to allow for this.
(2) I use a dial-up connection, and it became an issue regarding only hearing the class vs. seeing/hearing the class. I first had only Windows Media Player version 6 installed. (This is the version that originally came with my Windows 2000 software.) I could not see anything, but I could hear just fine. I then installed Windows Media Player version 9, and I was able to see and hear. However, the reception was WAY too choppy. I then un-installed version 9, and went back to version 6. I could then hear but not see, but it was a lot less choppy (within tolerable limits.) For someone with a dial-up connection, not using version 9 (and not seeing anything) seems to be the way to go. Getting only audio and no video seems to be a compromise that a dial-up user will just have to accept.
(3) The audio feed was WAY too quiet. I had to turn my speakers way up. Then, whenever something else caused my Windows software to make a sound, that sound would come booming across my speakers.

All in all, it was a successful first connection to this Live Theosophical Class on the internet. I look forward to many more.

I am using a dial-up connection, and now I am completely unable to connect to the San Diego ULT meetings. If anyone with a dial-up connection is able to connect, I would like to hear from you! (Hopefully it is just a matter of me re-configuring something....)

The San Diego ULT webpage now has info on connecting to the live online study-sessions:

I had no success in connecting. Later an email told me they had "technical difficulties" but would have them fixed by next Sunday class.

ON LINE THEOSOPHICAL CLASS UPDATE
info@theosophysandiego.org
For those of you who have missed viewing our On Line Theosophical classes (In Real Time) from San Diego, we seemed to have solved most of our technical problems and these classes are now resuming.
Each Sunday class is now on our web site by the following Monday. This is important for those in different time zones as you can now hear and watch the class at any time which is convenient. Go to our web site:
www.theosophysandiego.org
and click on On Line Classes on the left hand side of the opening page. Click on the Sunday class link and the class will appear on your computer screen. We just had a wonderful response from Australia reporting good audio and video.
There is now information on the On Line link for Mac users so you too can view the classes. We feel these classes can be most useful for those students who have no Theosophical meetings available in their area. Please forward this information to anyone you know having this situation.

Hi everybody,
The San Diego group now records their study sessions, and the sessions are available later as a video file. Warning, these are LARGE files. I watched two of the sessions by first downloading the files and then watching them later. When I watched them in this way, I had no technical problems, and I could view the sessions just fine.
