Often study of writings on Theosophy is considered for beginners only. At some point, we evolve beyond the need or even the value of pondering on ideas in written form - or so it is said. There have been illiterate Adepts, so it is true that literacy is not needed. But if one is literate, the value of pondering on what is read is a transformative element of the Path that goes far beyond the first steps.
For example, Mr. Judge give worthy thoughts in his "Synthesis of Occult Science" article:
| QUOTE |
| The Manasic, or mind element, with its cosmic and infinite potentialities, is not merely ... developed "instinct"... Mind is the latent or active potentiality of Cosmic Ideation, the essence of every form, the basis of every law, the potency of every principle in the universe. Human thought is the reflection or reproduction in the realm of man's consciousness of these forms, laws, and principles. Hence man senses and apprehends nature just as nature unfolds in him. |
So the study of The Secret Doctrine or any other ideas found in the writings of Divine Wisdom is, when pursued deeply, over time, purificatory & enlightening, in and of itself. Whether we perfectly understand is of less importance than our sincere effort to "reflect or reproduce these forms, laws and principles."
