Title: St. Nicholas Day

Happy St. Nicholas Day everyone.

The feast of St. Nicholas is celebrated on December 6th (in every country of the world except Holland, where it is celebrated on December 5th). It is the feast of St. Nicholas (with the idea of St. Nicholas giving small candies to good children) that was "borrowed," and grafted onto Christmas, to give us Santa Claus.

Happy St. Nicholas Day everyone.

I wanted to share one story of how a real event turned into a myth. The real St. Nick knew a family that needed some money. He put some money into a sack and tossed it down their chimney. From this has grown the myth that Santa comes down our chimneys on Christmas Eve.

I have a chimney. Maybe we can test this theory? :D

Christian

Good inform. I am sure I will retell your story often. Thank you.

Hi everybody!

Once more, Father Time has traveled on his appointed rounds through another year, and once more we stand on the threshold of celebrating the Feast of St. Nicholas.

At this time of year, I am always reminded of the occasion I visited the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Amsterdam. I must say, it was fascinating to stand inside of a cathedral named after my namesake!
