Title: Lipikas

Yesspiritual - January 18, 2008 12:59 PM (GMT)
Hi,

I read about Lipikas in Inner Living and looked it up in the Theosophical Encyclopedia.

I thought the Law of Karma is a universal law. Why do we need the celestial beings Lipikas to record and administer karma?

Thank you.

YS,

The Lipikas are the keepers of the Akashic Record.

“The Lipi-ka, from the word lipi, ‘writing,’ means literally the ‘Scribes.’ Mystically, these Divine Beings are connected with Karma, the Law of Retribution, for they are the Recorders or Annalists who impress on the (to us) invisible tablets of the Astral Light, ‘the great picture-gallery of eternity’ — a faithful record of every act, and even thought, of man, of all that was, is, or ever will be, in the phenomenal Universe. As said in ‘Isis,’ this divine and unseen canvas is the BOOK OF LIFE. As it is the Lipika who project into objectivity from the passive Universal Mind the ideal plan of the universe, upon which the ‘Builders’ reconstruct the Kosmos after every Pralaya, it is they who stand parallel to the Seven Angels of the Presence, whom the Christians recognise in the Seven ‘Planetary Spirits’ or the ‘Spirits of the Stars;’ ” (SD vol 1 p 104)

It is a key teaching that a lot of what goes on in the universe is entrusted to "helpers." All of the work of the universe is delegated to lesser Beings.

“As it is the Lipika who project into objectivity from the passive Universal Mind the ideal plan of the universe, upon which the ‘Builders’ reconstruct the Kosmos after every Pralaya, it is they who stand parallel to the Seven Angels of the Presence....” (SD vol 1 p 53)

This is quite different than the Christian idea of one God who does everything. Everything that happens in a galaxy is overseen by its galaxy Regent, and the actual building of the galaxy is handed over to subordinates. Likewise, everything in a solar system is overseen by its solar system Regent, and the actual building of the solar system is handed over to subordinates. Authority for watching things like karma is handed over to the Lipika.

I need to do some rethinking. All this while I have placed the issue of 'creation' at the back burner and among others, assumed that 'reincarnation' and 'karma' are universal laws or laws of nature just like the law of gravitation--no one created them.

If everything in a solar system is overseen by its Regent, then it implies that different solar system has different Regents and these 'laws or systems' may be run differently. What does this mean?

Can you elobarate, or point me to any book I can read up?

Thanks.

YS,

First, we must review the symbolism that is widely taught in Christianity. They say that Christ is the son of the Virgin Mary. What this really means is, the Son (which is our our solar system) was constructed from a pre-cosmic material called Mulaprakriti. This Mulaprakriti is unaffected by what goes on, and basically remains unchanged as solar systems come and go (hence the idea of virginity).

For onto us a child is born. For onto us a solar system is born. The Son has had many siblings — there have been many solar systems.

"...different solar system has different Regents and these 'laws or systems' may be run differently."

--> Each solar system has its own Regent. There is a chance that Natural Law differs from solar system to solar system. By the way, the Mahatmas have repeatedly told us their information only pertains to this solar system, and they have no information about other solar systems.

Another thing to consider is, the Regent of our Solar system has seven Assistants. When this solar system finally ends, we are told that each of these seven will go on to have His own solar system.
