Title: Greetings

Driver78 - December 2, 2007 09:37 PM (GMT)
Greetings
I'm a 29 year old truck driver in the U.S. (sometimes I drive in Canada as well)

I came upon Theosophy very soon after experiencing a spiritual awakening back around Christmas of 1999. It was one of those events, where the faithful Christian from youth turned angry atheist as a teenager, then despondent materialist, agnostic young adult, suddenly awakes one day with a indescribable feeling that the Divine IS. Starting from that time I very carelessly and voraciously read every little thing that was New Age'ish that I could get my hands on, or actually my fingers on - because most of what I read early on was through this jungle that is the Internet. I do recall though, that my brief encounters with theosophical articles and other works left a good impression of Theosophy.
The funny thing about that event in my life is how I went from an agnostic, never even considering ideas like Karma and Reincarnation, to waking up that day convinced about those laws. But this is a very reasonable thing considering those same laws.

So now, 8 years later, after a regular time of trying to balance that inner urge to move toward a higher life, with that of a young man with some strong vices and plenty of things to burn through (karmicly), I've been approaching a balanced place in life from where to begin more serious and conscious living, and Theosophy is my foundation.

I've still a lot theosophical concepts to learn, study and grasp, such as the cyclic evolution and around globes and such. I've found that a lot of learning concerning Theosophical ideas is intuitional. That is, sometimes you will read a new idea, or a familiar one presented in a new or slightly differing way, and this causes something inside of you (the mind or mental body perhaps) to vibrate, or "resonate." This impulse can give us the notion that here is some thing or idea to be further explored.

Right now as a very busy 'over the road' team truck driver my life is hard to organize around groups and such. My hope is to begin to participate in group discussion here to get the feeling of it. I have not joined the T.S. formally, nor have I participated in any groups before, but it is my wish to be more involved in group work and study in the future.

I'm interested in learning more ways to learn from Life and Nature through analogy or the Law of Correspondence.

It may take me some time to respond to messages because when I'm on the road it is sometimes hard to find Internet.

Im glad to have joined the forum

Hi, Driver, and welcome to the Forum.

You said,

"...the faithful Christian from youth turned angry atheist as a teenager, then despondent materialist, agnostic young adult, suddenly awakes one day with a indescribable feeling that the Divine IS."

--> I think many of us have been through a path of religous change over the years, just like you.

"...I very carelessly and voraciously read every little thing that was New Age'ish...."

--> My first foray into New Age was reading the Edger Cayce books.

"...I went from an agnostic, never even considering ideas like Karma and Reincarnation, to waking up that day convinced about those laws."

--> It is my strong opinion that we are attracted to ideas we believed in a previoius lifetime. I have heard of "miraculous conversions" of Christians to Buddhists, and vice versa. I think it can be simply explained as recognizing something familiar from a previous life. I think you are probably re-kindling Theosophical ideas from a previous lifetime.

"I've been approaching a balanced place in life from where to begin more serious and conscious living, and Theosophy is my foundation."

--> Each of us has taken quite a fascinating Path to get here, haven't we?

"I've still a lot theosophical concepts to learn, study and grasp, such as the cyclic evolution and around globes and such."

--> Please ask any questions you have on Theosophical concepts and vocabulary. Answering such questions is one the reasons we started this Forum.

"I've found that a lot of learning concerning Theosophical ideas is intuitional. --> That is the beauty of Theosophy. I am always amazed at how such a complicated theory can make sense.

"My hope is to begin to participate in group discussion here to get the feeling of it."

--> Please join in wherever you like. Is there a particular area of study you are interested in? We can start a thread on something you are interested in, if you like.

"I'm interested in learning more ways to learn from Life and Nature through analogy or the Law of Correspondence."

--> Have you read Geoffrey Barborka's book, The Divine Plan?

"It may take me some time to respond to messages because when I'm on the road it is sometimes hard to find Internet."

--> It will be fascinating to hear of your travel escapades.

Driver,

Since you said you are interested in studying the Rounds, I thought I would include a couple of graphics I put together a few years ago.

A Round is the amount of time a life-wave (human, animal, etc.) spends on each of the seven planets in one revolution around a Chain.

Our human life-wave started the Round on Globe A, moved to Globe B, then moved to Gobe C, and is presently on Earth (Globe D).

Hi Nick
Thanks for the graphics - they do help.
In the last week I've breezed through some articles about our progress on globes, through rounds and chains, and I must say I have still much effort to put into getting a better grasp of it. And apparently the whole idea has a history of some confusion. Thanks to this forum I have read some old posts concerning this idea and so I am now better educated as to where to continue from.

Tonight I've found myself reading through some of the threads here. There is a lot of good discussion here for learners like me. To much for one night though, so I'm hitting the sack after I make this post.

I haven't read Barborka's book but I have now made a note of it.

One thing I remembered tonight is how there are some noted differences in theosophical ideas between Blavatsky and Leadbeater/Besant. I remembered this after searching about articles about our progress round globes and chains. I never paid much attention to the differences because I haven't really gone too far into real and organized study of theosophy, but I have mostly been exposed to and explored the ideas from early theosophical writing - what some would call Blavatskian - and not so much Leadbeater/Besant, though I understand there is a lot of substance that they covered.

So what I'm going to do this coming week is to read up some about those differences and decide whether they are significant or not to me.

Also I'm going to tackle the Evolution thing too. I know Purucker and Judge have some articles about it and im sure I can find more. I think i have the gist of it so far, but the idea of Three Life Waves was admittedly new to me tonight, so I look forward to learning more.

I'm still on the road and wont be home until the Solstice probably, but then I will remain home and relaxing in Florida :) until after the new year . I'm so busy otherwise that I hardly get to read my books but sometimes on the weekends.

When I get home I will try to post more about the theosophical ideas that interest me as there are somethings things I would like to bring up.

Driver,

You said,

"...there are some noted differences in theosophical ideas between Blavatsky and Leadbeater/Besant."

--> One difference is the time-frame involved. Leadbeater says we live on one planet as animals, then one planet as humans. Blavatsky's time-frame is much longer. HPB says we spend an entire Manvantara as humans, and the animals around us here on Earth will spend this entire Manvantara as animals.

"...I'm going to tackle the Evolution thing too."

--> Do you find evolution (as taught in Theosophy) to be confusing?

"...the idea of Three Life Waves was admittedly new to me tonight, so I look forward to learning more."

--> Do you mean the human, animal and plant life-waves?

"...there are somethings things I would like to bring up."

--> We are waiting for your questions with great expectation.
