I evaluate my connections to consciousness considerably higher than those depicted in Theosophy, historically. High Mediumship finds us connecting to the Mental Plane and above. I beleive the accounts of the Samadhi define the current level of High Mediumship, and am looking into the Tibetan, Hindu and Buddhist Eastern philosophy and practice. Some is related to Mediumship, other yoga, and still other accounts, natural. I've ordered the first of several book on this subject I will likely review, and should begin my introduction in about a week.

--> Oh, I think anyone who achieves consciousness at the Adi level would be doing quite well. (It has been said that no human will get anywhere near consciousness at the Adi, Anupapadaka, or Atma levels during this universe.)
Many people can reach their Higher Self.
People have connected with Budda and Jesus.
Jesus says he connected with God.
... I kind of find the "It has been said" kind of a meaningless statement. EVERYONE has the potential, however latent. And, it is an inevitable accomplishment.
We WILL all work through the physical, the psychic, the intellectual and eventually the Spiritual thresholds, it is our destiny. We are only held back by the built in "default" mechnisms. We can choose to speed up our progress, and in doing so, we AUTOMATICALLY help all humanity to speed up their development. Further, my latter thought is very likely in intrinsic or instinctual motivating thoght in all of us, at some level.
My thoughts.
Seeing the semi-forms we have in some of the Heavenly Planes is an extrordinary experience. The feeling one has of our quality compared to "theirs" is very humbling, and is in itself a much needed lesson that anyone can benefit from. To be in the presence of greatness has meaning beyond the words. We must experience things, internalize the lessons, so we learn and desire to set our personal goals 2, even 3 or 4 times higher than we ever thought possible. People need to experience the other planes or sub-planes in the upper Astral and well above experientially, so we can establish our whole new set of reference points. We will all, each and every one of us, absolutely leave feeling that "the words" never conveyed this. We, as well, need to experience our own greater power, for at the same time, we experience or own greater goodness. I imagine most people leave their soujourn just "wishing they could be themselves" (what they feel about themselves when they are own a higher level of consciousness. Alas, we cannot maintain the foothold, but the memory might stay with us forever. We become our own best Guide. We have a greater sense of relativity. We don't want to eschew our physical life either, we just want to make the "best" of it.
