Nick expressed interest in the Yoga sutras of Patanjali and WQ Judge's commentary is very good.

But here is one by Swami J who is alive and in Florida.

There is much material on the Yoga Sutras by Swami Jnaneshvara Bharati; here is a place to start.

Nicholas,

I am curious; have you been able to use any of the Yoga Sutras? It seems that there is so much information, it is hard for a person to even know where to start.

Yes Nick, the sutras are not laid out for beginners, without a guru. I would suggest reading about & pondering on and then trying to practice the first two of the eight elements or steps of Yoga. http://swamij.com/yoga-sutras-23034.htm These are listed in order of practice and eventual mastery.

The work of I.K. Taimni (not online I think) on Yama and Niyama is a good introduction to the Yoga Sutras I think. He also did a translation/commentary on the Yoga Sutras: 'The Science of Yoga' (also not online). Both are still in print, I'm sure at the Adyar TS.
